Make a Chore Chart to Keep Your Home Organized
An easy way to keep everyone on task is to make a chart that lists all rooms in the home. Assign each family member to a specific area to make sure it is clutter-free at the end of the day.
To make this a family project, give each person a basket or box. Items that don’t belong in the assigned room can be collected in the box. Things that belong in that room should be put away. After the room is tidy, return the boxed items to the proper places in the house.
Organizing Tips for Multi-Story Homes
If you have more than one floor in your home, going up and down the stairs all day to put things away gets tiresome. Keep a box at the top and bottom of the flight of stairs (in a safe location, out of the way) where family members can deposit things that belong on another floor. At the end of the day, or when the box is full, return the items to where they belong.
Use Labels to Keep Your Home Organized
Labels are useful for even the youngest family members. Labels help everyone remember where things belong. If children are too young to read, use picture labels that also include the words. Add labels to boxes, bins, shelves, and cabinets to encourage your family to return things to the proper places.
Organizing Laundry
Designate a place for the dirty laundry in your home. Color-code the baskets or label them: whites, darks, and colors. Every family member can sort their own laundry into the bins. When a basket gets full, it’s time to wash a load.
No matter what organizational methods work best for your family, consistency is the key. To stay on top of clutter, everyone has to make the effort to help put things away.
